Suntup reveals ‘The Murder of Roger Ackroyd’

For the mystery and crime crowd: Suntup Editions has announced three new editions of Agatha Christie’s The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, which they expect to ship in Winter 2026. All three editions will be printed letterpress, set in Monotype Bell, and feature illustrations by Anna & Elena Balbusso, an introduction by Martin Edwards, and an afterword by John Curran.

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd is a landmark work in Christie’s bibliography that changed the rules of detective fiction by masterfully weaponizing its narrative perspective. I won’t spoil how, but by planting clues in plain sight while relying on the reader’s trust, the novel transforms a traditional whodunit into a commentary on the nature of truth and deception.

Artist Edition ($185)

Limited to 500 copies, the Artist edition has an iconic dust jacket illustrated by Anna & Elena Balbusso. The book itself features a full cloth binding with the front cover distinguished by foil blocking. Inside, you’ll find embossed Rainbow endsheets, and the edition is protected by a cloth-covered slipcase. This volume is letterpress printed on Fedrigoni Arena 120 gsm paper and personally signed by Anna & Elena Balbusso.

Numbered Edition ($595)

Limited to 250 copies, the Numbered edition has a more elaborate binding in the Bradel style, featuring a goatskin leather spine complemented by Japanese cloth boards. A particularly striking feature is the front cover’s die-cut dagger: Made from metallic paper and inset with a ruby-red gemstone, this motif dramatically echoes a key instrument of intrigue from the novel.

The endsheets are custom patterned papers specifically designed for this release, and the head and tail bands are crafted from leather. This edition also includes a fold-out of the illustration found on the Artist edition dust jacket.

Letterpress printed on mouldmade Liber Charta 135 gsm paper, the book is housed within a cloth-covered clamshell enclosure that features velour-lined trays. It bears the signatures of Anna & Elena Balbusso, Martin Edwards, and John Curran.

Lettered Edition ($1,950)

Limited to 26 copies, the Lettered Edition is bound entirely in goatskin leather, its cover intricately foil-blocked with a custom Art Deco design, an elegant aesthetic reference to the novel’s period setting. Details include marbled endsheets and leather head & tail bands. It also provides a fold-out of the Artist edition dust jacket illustration.

The edition is letterpress printed on handmade Velké Losiny 120 gsm paper. This paper, which features a custom dagger-shaped watermark that mirrors an ornamental device in the text, is sourced from the historic Velké Losiny mill in the Czech Republic, a location that has been crafting fine paper since the 16th century.

The book is protected by a cloth-covered clamshell enclosure with velour-lined trays. The edition is signed by Anna & Elena Balbusso, Martin Edwards, and John Curran.

About Suntup Editions

Suntup Editions was founded in late 2016 by Paul Suntup, driven by a deep appreciation for the art and craft of fine bookmaking, an ideal inspired by the late 19th-century Private Press movement pioneers like William Morris. Dissatisfied with mass-produced books, Suntup set out with the mission to publish meticulously crafted, limited-edition books that are art objects themselves.

The press quickly gained attention following its 2017 debut and has since established a reputation for collaborating with leading writers, artists, and artisans to create highly sought-after editions across genres — often utilizing letterpress printing and premium, archival materials — typically published in various states, each with its own unique design and character.
