Beehive Books, the boutique Philadelphia press known for its lavishly illustrated editions of classic and modern literature, has announced details for its upcoming release of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s A Wonder Book.
It will be the next title in the publisher’s celebrated ILLUMINATED EDITIONS series and will feature brand-new illustrations by the acclaimed Spanish artist Das Pastoras, who is best known in the U.S. for his work in Marvel Comics.
Originally titled A Wonder-Book for Girls and Boys and published one year after The Scarlet Letter in 1851, A Wonder Book retells classic Greek myths using a frame narrative with schoolchildren in Berkshire County, Massachusetts.

Beehive’s illuminated edition will include new original essays by Guillermo Del Toro, José Villarubia, and Kate Bernheimer, and it will be available in three distinct editions, each designed to appeal to different price points.
Beehive Books, founded by Josh O’Neill and Maura Lynch in 2016, has established a reputation for producing some of the most beautiful and unique fine press editions on the market today.
All three editions of A Wonder Book will be oversized 9″ x 12″ hardcovers with sewn signatures, printed on creamy, acid-free heavy-weight 140gsm uncoated paper. They will feature dozens of full-color illustrations, illuminated letters, and special design pieces by Das Pastoras.

Standard Edition: Housed in an elegant embossed and debossed die-cut slipcase, this edition features the core volume with all the new illustrations and special design.
Signed & Numbered Edition: Limited to just 250 copies, this collector’s edition is signed and numbered by Das Pastoras. It includes all the features of the Standard Edition, along with a special foil-blocked fine art print, an enamel pin, foiled fore-edge printing, and a bound-in silk ribbon marker.
Lettered Edition: The most exclusive of the offerings, this edition is limited to a mere 26 copies. It includes all the features of the Signed & Numbered edition but is further elevated by an original drawing from Das Pastoras. Each copy is housed in a handsome cloth clamshell case, secured by two laser-cut metal plates.
Beehive Books has confirmed that the editions are now available for pre-order, with an expected release date in early 2026.
